Brief: Design and manage a website for a student radio station. The site should serve as an online identity to the station, especially when it is not broadcasting. The website should convey the diverse nature of the station and provide interactivity to compliment the audio feed.
Detail: The design is a reworking of a previous style, but with a lot more content and added visual devices which relate back to the logo, strengthening the Sure Radio brand. The site is highly dynamic, providing a live schedule, track request facility, voting, tickers and Flash animations. Each show has its own description along with a photo and sometimes extended information. The site also hosts photo albums and off-the-cuff and behind-the-scenes comment sections to increase site stickiness, making it the must-visit destination for any listener.
Implementation: The website tries to carefully balance visual elements and page loading time. PHP is used to keep the content fresh across multiple pages with a uniform style whilst still allowing maximum flexibility with customisable headings and menus among other items. Where possible content is generated dynamically, resulting in hundreds of cross-linked and meaningful pages in a natural hierarchical structure.
Feedback: SureRadio.com has grown from a simple appendage through to a full-blown second identity for the station. Although unable to broadcast for much of the year, Sure Radio keeps itself fresh by continually promoting its website on banners and flyers at student clubs throughout the year. Both presenters and outsiders have remarked on the quality and professionalism of the website, which has also received high praise in the Student Radio Awards.
